Katrina has extensive experience conducting professional development, designing curricula and developing leaders in both public and independent school settings. For example, she was asked to design and implement a program that provides acceleration and enrichment for academically talented students in Bermuda. In her most recent position as the English Language Arts Supervisor for STEM in Baltimore County, a hybrid position created to encourage literacy across content areas in preparation for the Common Core, she worked with all content areas to support the 107,000 students in the district. She’s been fortunate to have been challenged to teach diverse groups of students: struggling readers, traditional learners, exceptionally talented students, children from affluent families and children from some of the lowest socioeconomic areas. In addition, she’s taught teacher preparation courses on the university level.
Now Katrina consults with schools, districts, teacher preparation programs, and organizations on designing new and updating existing programs. She’s a particular advocate of using effective targeted professional development that measurably changes teacher practice and improves student learning.
In addition to blogging here, Katrina writes for SmartBrief for Education and Edsurge.
Katrina, so great meeting you at Startup Weekend Nextgen! Thanks for all of your help with our school focused on parent participation and development of non-cog values.
Keep up the awesome work and I hope that our paths cross in the future.
Katrina,
I’m really impressed by the site, particularly your article about helping reluctant teachers tech up, great stuff! I’ve been looking for a guest blogger to post at ExitTicket.org about just that subject. Let me know if you’re interested in lending your voice. Either way, keep up the great work!
